If there’s a bright center of the Internet, you’re on the blog that it’s farthest from.

The Mecha Monogatari

The Mecha Monogatari was a home-brewed d20 System-based RPG set in a near-future Japan, where the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force fielded mecha known as Titans to protect their homeland from the gigantic alien destroyers known as the Eschatos.  The setting was very much inspired by the great (and some not-so-great) giant robot anime we had seen, such as the various incarnations of Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Gunparade March.  The campaign was by necessity a single-player one: I (Doug) was the game master, and Yamane Ishi was the sole player character.

His character was Seki Akira, a silver-haired teenager who was among the few who could “synchronize” his mind with the operating system of a Titan and as such was conscripted into the JGSDF to serve as a pilot.

I have been writing the story of The Mecha Monogatari and posting it, chapter by chapter, to this blog.  So far, I have completed the following chapters:

Entries marked with an asterisk (*) are included in the most recent PDF release of The Mecha Monogatari.

I have also written an aptly titled post about my thought processes as I try to rebuild the Mecha Monogatari RPG: “A Long-Winded Rant About Homebrewing a Roleplaying Game System.”
